What You Can Do

In our increasingly 'throw-away' society more and more rubbish isfood waste being generated and going to landfill. Waste is everyone’s problem. We all produce it when we dispose of things. Putting things into the bin may seem an easy way to get rid of rubbish from your home, but it is not the end of the story. The contents of your general rubbish bin are not sorted. Instead they are taken to landfill sites in Wiltshire and Swindon where they may take generations to rot, if they do so at all.

It costs money to collect our waste, transport it to landfill sites, bury it in the ground and manage these sites. This is a cost we all bear through our council taxes. Also, if we care about our air, water supply and wildlife, we need to pay attention to the cost our rubbish has on our environment as well.

Why do we need to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste? Click here to find out the benefits to the environment - and your pocket!

reducing waste and using reusable bagsThe amount of rubbish we throw away continues to rise annually. By rethinking our rubbish we can not only reduce the amount of waste we create, but can often save money as well. We can also turn our household waste into a resource that
someone else can use.

Lets all try to remember the '3 R's' of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and see what you can do to reduce the amount of waste you throw away.

The following pages give ideas on how you can reduce, reuse, and recycle your household waste. Just click on the icons to get going. You can also find information on how to compost your kitchen waste:
