Over 46 million tonnes of agricultural waste was generated in England in 2003 with the South West producing the highest proportion (12.8 million tonnes).
The Environment Agency have recognised the need to tighten up on the controls imposed on farmers concerning the disposal of their agricultural waste. This has led to the development of The Agricultural Waste Regulations 2006 which came into force on 15th May 2006.

828,000 tonnes was liquid waste (including silage effluent, pesticide washings, milk, used oil and sheep dip).
