Unfortunately, Hills Waste Solutions have been forced to suspend their trial collection of rigid plastics at Wiltshire's Household Recycling Centres indefinately.
The reason for the decision is that the local company that had been accepting the material collected via the HRCs for reprocessing has suspended it's own operations. With no suitable alternative market for the material we can no longer justify separating this material from other waste streams. Therefore, with immediate effect rigid plastics will be collected with other non-recyclable at the HRCs, and sent to landfill.
Hills and Wiltshire Council will continue to investigate potential markets for this material, as the trial skips had proved popular with residents.
Plastic Types 1,2 & 3 (Inc. Plastic Bottles)
Collections of plastic types 1, 2 & 3 will continue at all 10 HRCs as this material is sent to a different specialist reprocessor.
Collections of plastic bottles through local "bring site" schemes and kerbside collections in the Salisbury will also continue as normal.
